4149' 'Big Daddy', a 2-6-0+0-6-2 'Afrikan' Garratt type locomotive, as rebuilt by Dave Wood & Barry Milner of York

Originally the subject of a dispute between the 'society' and the original builder, this locomotive eventually arrived in September 2007, well after the originally agreed delivery date. ........

In its first twenty-one months of service, continued poor performance gradually uncovered an absolutely appalling standard of assembly - The result of this, was that the 'society' totally refused to have any further dealings with the locomotive's original builder, and a complete rebuild of the motion assemblies by another recommended workshop soon became the only option left..........

The work was successfully carried out in July 2009, and included the provision of an additional condensing tank to equalize the different exhaust properties which were created by the different lengths of pipe between the respective front and rear motion assemblies and the chimney.

As a result of the rebuild, this locomotive now performs faultlessly!
